Four Way Pallet Shuttle System
Built with Racking, Four Way Shuttles, Rails, Lifts, Conveyors, and software WCS/WMS.
Products Description
The Four Way Pallet Shuttle is a high-density automated pallet storage solution within an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS). Unlike conventional pallet racking, the shuttle can travel in both longitudinal and transverse directions across the rail network.
A complete system generally includes storage racking, four-way shuttles, rails, vertical lifts, conveyors, WCS, and WMS software. UNISTAR provides customized system design, racking manufacturing, equipment integration, software coordination, installation support, and technical service according to each warehouse layout and operating requirement.
● Built with Racking, Four Way Shuttles, Rails, Lifts, Conveyors, and software WCS/WMS.
● Popular in Food, Beverage, Chemical, Tobacco, Cooking Oil industries, especially in Cold Warehouses.
● High Density Storage Solution. Operated 100% automatically. Interface with existing ERP. Reducing labor cost.
● The storage unit is standard pallet. High Storage Capacity. High throughput. Stable racking structure.
How the Four Way Pallet Shuttle Works
Pallet identification
The WMS creates a storage or retrieval task based on the pallet information and available location.Inbound conveying
Conveyors transport the pallet from the receiving station to the storage system.Vertical transfer
A pallet lift moves the pallet to the required storage level.Shuttle positioning
The four-way shuttle travels along the main rail and changes direction to enter the selected storage lane.Storage or retrieval
The shuttle places the pallet in the assigned position or removes it for outbound handling.Inventory update
The WCS and WMS record the pallet location and coordinate the next handling task.
Four Way Pallet Shuttle vs Other Storage Systems
| System Type | Movement Method | Storage Density | Automation Level | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Four Way Pallet Shuttle | Moves forward, backward, left, and right across rail networks | Very high | Fully automated | Flexible high-density pallet storage |
| Two-Way Shuttle System | Moves forward and backward inside one storage lane | High | Semi-automated or automated | Large quantities of fewer SKUs |
| Stacker Crane AS/RS | A crane moves horizontally and vertically within a fixed aisle | High | Fully automated | High-bay warehouses with fixed operating aisles |
| Selective Pallet Racking | Forklifts directly access each pallet position | Moderate | Manual | Warehouses requiring direct access to every pallet |
| Drive-In Racking | Forklifts enter deep storage lanes | High | Manual | Bulk storage of similar palletized goods |
Advantages of a Four Way Pallet Shuttle System
High storage density
Deep-lane storage reduces the number of forklift aisles and increases available pallet positions.Flexible four-direction movement
The shuttle can move between storage lanes and main rails within the racking structure.Fully automated operation
WCS and WMS software coordinate pallet storage, retrieval, transport, and inventory records.Reduced forklift dependence
Forklifts do not need to enter deep racking lanes, helping reduce manual handling.Scalable throughput
Additional shuttle units can be introduced when higher handling capacity is required.Improved space utilization
The system uses both horizontal and vertical warehouse space more efficiently.Accurate inventory control
Each pallet movement and storage location can be recorded through the warehouse software.Suitable for continuous operation
Automated pallet handling supports warehouses with frequent inbound and outbound tasks.ERP integration capability
The system can exchange inventory and order information with existing enterprise platforms.Stable racking structure
The storage racking is engineered around pallet loads, shuttle movement, building conditions, and seismic requirements.
Suitable Working Environments of Four Way Pallet Shuttle
| Application Environment | Main Storage Requirement | Why Use a Four Way Pallet Shuttle? |
| Cold Storage Warehouses | Maximum pallet density with limited manual operation | Reduces aisles and forklift activity inside low-temperature areas |
| Food and Beverage Warehouses | High pallet volumes and controlled batch movement | Supports dense storage and automated pallet handling |
| Chemical Warehouses | Organized storage of standardized pallet loads | Improves location control and reduces unnecessary forklift movement |
| Cooking Oil Warehouses | Large volumes of similar palletized goods | Provides deep-lane storage and automated retrieval |
| Tobacco Warehouses | High-density, traceable pallet storage | Supports accurate inventory management and space utilization |
| Manufacturing Plants | Storage of raw materials and finished goods | Connects storage with production and dispatch processes |
| Distribution Centers | Frequent inbound and outbound pallet movement | Multiple shuttles can support changing throughput requirements |
| Third-Party Logistics Warehouses | Different customer inventories and changing storage needs | Offers flexible storage allocation and software-based stock control |
| High-Density Pallet Warehouses | Limited floor area and growing inventory | Uses deep lanes and multiple storage levels |
| Automated Logistics Centers | Integration with conveyors, lifts, WMS, and ERP | Creates a complete automated pallet handling workflow |
